Product Review
Back in January, I had a chance to test out the new RedMax EBZ8500 backpack leaf blower. Overall, I was impressed with its performance and maneuverability.
The RedMax EBZ8500 is not your average backpack leaf blower. This machine features a 528 cc 4 stroke engine that produce 83.9 foot-pounds of torque. That’s enough power to move wet, heavy leaves and debris.
The full throttle speed is 202 MPH at the nozzle and 41 MPH at the maximum distance setting (the distance you can travel while still blowing air). This makes it easy to blow some serious air while maintaining control over where that air goes. Many backpack blowers that we’ve tested have a lot of power, but lose control over the air as you move further away from the nozzle. That makes it hard to direct the airflow and easily maneuver around tight spaces like flower beds and bushes.
The RedMax EBZ8500 was designed with comfort in mind for those long days on the job.
What’s Included
The following are some of the most prominent features of the EBZ8500:
- The size of the grass clippings that can be collected varies based on personal preference. A lawnmower with a 50 cc engine – powerful, yet lightweight at 9 lbs., is ideal for those who have smaller or medium-sized yards.
- You can control the speed of the fan with a variable speed throttle, which allows you to match it to your demands. For fast pickup, choose between speeds of 1800 RPM for heavier work or 700 RPM for when precision is required.
- It’s made of a high-density polyethylene head and a galvanized steel tube. It has an air volume of up to 790 CFM with a speed of up to 165 mph, making it ideal for medium-sized yards and diverse yard chores.
- The machine is equipped with a 1.5-gallon gas tank, which helps to ensure user safety and better operation by not overfilling the device and causing gasoline to spill all over when you go to fill it up. Many consumers have reported that this is an issue with smaller machines, so we appreciate RedMax’s attention to detail.
- Simplified air filter system, S-Start recoil starter and shoulder strap for improved comfort – these three characteristics working together make the EBZ8500 a very user-friendly machine. We believe that this model is unlikely to be enough for heavy-duty work due to its 52cc engine. However, this is an excellent choice for lighter work.
Design
The padded, adjustable back pad provides additional comfort over the traditional backpack leaf blower. The shoulder straps are nicely padded and don’t dig into your shoulders. An adjustable chest strap helps you get the perfect fit. The handlebar is large and easy to use. And rather than a pull-cord attached to an engine, this machine has a 2-stroke engine and a large (maybe too large) throttle trigger to make it easy for you.
The RedMax EBZ8500 has an air speed of 202 MPH at the nozzle and 41 MPH at the maximum distance setting – making it perfect for blowing wet leaves and debris over great distances. The variable propulsion system also allows you to get to different speeds quickly with the touch of a button. This helps when trying to navigate tight spaces, or when you need more power at full speed!
Weighing in at only 29 pounds, the RedMax EBZ8500 is lightweight and easy to maneuver. Reviewers have mentioned that they feel like they are “wearing” the machine, rather than pushing it.
Price
The RedMax EBZ8500 retails at $599.99 and includes a 4 year consumer warranty. A huge feature that separates this machine from some of its competitors is that you can purchase an additional battery for $399.99. This gives you double the run time which will save you time on the job site.

Conclusion
Overall, I am very impressed with the performance and maneuverability of this backpack leaf blower. RedMax claims that it has “the power to move wet, heavy leaves.” Mission accomplished! This is definitely one machine that all homeowners should consider when looking for a powerful, comfortable backpack leaf blower. Reviewers have even gone so far as to say that this is the “best backpack leaf blower [they] have ever owned.” Check out some of the reviews from real owners here .
