Screw Compressor Technical and Commercial Information

The  screw compressor bases its technology on a positive displacement of the air in chambers that originate with the rotation of two screws, called one male and the other female, which rotate simultaneously and in the opposite direction, creating spaces that the air fills. As for the raw material, air, its direction of movement in the compressor is always linear, from the suction part to the pressure part, in the outlet nozzle.

The main parts of the screw compression element comprise male and female rotors that move towards each other while reducing the volume between them and the housing. The pressure coefficient of the screw depends on the length and shape of the screw and the shape of the outlet opening.

Applications

Of all the compressors, the screw compressor is one of the most demand in the industrial market, due to its effectiveness for multiple uses, its simple adaptability and because it is cheaper than hydraulic systems.

In the industry they are indispensable in the manufacturing sectors in general, as well as in the food and beverage, electronics, wood, pharmaceutical, military, aerospace, automotive, among others, since they are equipment that makes everything easier.

Parties

  • A  screw compressor  has in its structure:
  • A timing gear, which makes both screws turn in the corresponding direction.
  • A rotor bearing, responsible for the main rotor shaft.
  • A spacer for the screws, where the timing gears and bearings are locate. A female rotor characterize by forming spaces call alveoli.
  • A male rotor that is made up of spaces call lobes.
  • The pinion that is responsible for the movement of the system.
  • A cooling channel to maintain the desire stable temperature.
  • A ventilation hole that teams up with the refrigerant channel.
  • A drainage hole for the exit of fluids from the compressor chamber.
  • A fluid outlet port.
  • Gaskets that do not allow any fluid to escape through the compressor.
  • A balance piston to keep the axles at the proper distance.

Types

The  screw compressor can be classify into two, according to its lubrication system in:

Lubricated. Oil is inject into the rotors, which lubricates, cools and seals the “rotor” assembly.

Exempt. With this system, the rotors work dry. Its main advantage is that they supply air that is not contaminate by the lubrication oil, since the lubricant it uses is not apply to the rotors.

Properties

The  screw compressor is a small machine that has a certain complexity of operation, although it is understood as a simple structure. The power source for the compressor is a gasoline or diesel-base internal combustion engine.

By means of two screws (female and male, the male has four lobes and the female has six alveoli.) The air is compress. The motor transmits mechanical energy to the compressor box or tank by means of a pulley. Simultaneously the screws rotate, creating a suction from the air intake, and the pressure increases through the cavities.

The screw compressor uses two long screws to compress the air within a long chamber. To avoid damaging the bolts themselves, oil is insert to keep the entire system lubricate.

The  screw compressor can be found in the market in a fix or portable unit.

Synonyms

The  screw compressor (in English screw air compressor ), is also known technically as a rotary compressor or helical compressor, due to the type of movement it generates. Another term known in the market is positive displacement compressor.
