Head to head comparison
It can be tough to choose a new car – which one is the right fit for you? To give you a bit of help, we’ve compared the specs of two different models.
The tata nexon has more power, while the brezza is lighter. The nexon also has an electric wing window feature and a 15.6-inch touchscreen. The brezza comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels and a DRL (daytime running light) that signals your turns as well as keeps you safe in poor visibility situations.
Price and variants
There are two cars that are high on people’s radar these days. The first is the Hyundai Creta which we would see as one of the top contenders in this segment. And then there is the new challenger, which we’re sure you’ve heard of by now –
The Tata Nexon. Two different price points, two sets of features but really just one question on our minds – which one should we buy?
In a segment that is fiercely competitive, and with petrol-electric hybrids finding their footing in India, when it comes to picking between the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the 2017 Tata Nexon, it all boils down to personal preferences.
For example, if you need something roomy for your family, go for the Nexon. If you want to have more control over what music plays from your speakers via Bluetooth, go for the Brezza.
Both the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the Tata Nexon are great choices for those looking for a cheap, affordable first car. The most important features to look at when deciding between these two cars are their safety features.
If safety is your priority then the Tata Nexon has a slightly better rating with three airbags, ABS, EBD and seat belts. However, it’s lack of power windows can be an issue for some as well as its lack of connectivity which is available on the Suzuki.
For this reason, if you’re not too concerned about being safe but would like something that offers more comfort in terms of entertainment, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza might be a better choice. It also comes standard with keyless entry and anti-lock brakes making it much safer than its competitor.
Interior & exterior design
Since both cars are subcompact SUVs, there are two main considerations when making a purchase decision. The exterior design and the interior design. The Brezzas design is modeled after Subaru Legacy which gives it a nice sleek look.
On the other hand, the Nexons exterior appears as if it is from from a spaceship which might be appealing to some people but not to others. One thing that makes both of these cars unique is that they offer an active driving mode. In fact, both models have the same control level on their dashboard that allows you to select the type of driving experience you would like to have (R-Normal, R-Sport and R-Highway).
Another big difference between these two cars is their performance numbers in tests. When tested for acceleration, the Brezza has a top speed of 131 km/h whereas the Nexon can only reach 123 km/h.
However, this isnt necessarily representative because car companies will make adjustments to their car’s engine so that they can have better fuel efficiency. Therefore it may just be possible that the Nexon has more power than what was shown in this test.
Powered by a 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine, the Nexon is equipped with 797cc and produces 103PS of max power at 5500rpm and 205Nm of max torque at 2500-3000rpm.
The engine features both DCT and manual transmission modes for better fuel efficiency as well as flexibility for both city driving and long-distance touring. On the other hand, the Brezzas engine boasts a 1.3L naturally aspirated petrol unit that delivers 87PS of power at 5500rpm along with 150Nm of torque at 2000-3500rpm.
Like other hatchbacks in its class, the Turbo version also comes with a torque vectoring system to aid performance under throttle in turns or during hard acceleration.
Crash safety – As a new car, both the Brezza and the Nexon are yet to be crash tested by ANCAP. But what we do know is that they both come with ABS as standard, which reduces the risk of slipping on wet surfaces and loss of grip in an emergency braking scenario.
They also have six airbags, including two for side-impact protection. Both cars also have head-thorax side airbags for those sitting on the left hand side, which help protect you in the event of a side collision or in a serious side impact such as a head-on collision.
Expected maintenance cost
Owning a car is expensive. Not only do you have to keep gas in it and pay for parking, but every now and then your car needs some major repair that’s going to cost thousands of dollars.
The sooner you’re aware of these costs, the better equipped you’ll be with coming up with a budget for yourself. I’ve collected some average maintenance costs for popular vehicles to give you an idea of what to expect.
Why you should buy either of them?
Both cars are fantastic for the price and will satisfy your needs. But, if you’re looking for a car that’s nimble, low-cost to run, and responsive at lower speeds then the Maruti Suzuki Brezza might be more up your alley. The same goes if you’re looking for a large car with plenty of storage space.
If you’re in the market for a good all-arounder, then either one of these models should do the trick. Choose based on what suits your lifestyle better!
