What Procedure To Follow While Doing Ducted AC Maintenance

When it comes to ducted air conditioning maintenance, we often hear that people are procrastinating because they assume it’s too difficult or they are afraid that they will break something. The system is pretty complicated with many different parts and electrical components.

However, the fact is that maintaining your system is a great way to reduce running costs and keep your system healthy. It will also make the system more reliable and less likely to fail. In this article, we’ll give you an overview of  regular ducted air conditioning maintenance and some tips for how you can do it yourself.

Of course, if you’re not sure what to do then you can call a technician who can help walk you through some of these steps on the phone or over Skype video chat so if nothing else just remember there’s always someone available to help. Read the following points and know the steps that you need to follow while doing maintenance of ducted air conditioning Sydney:

Air Filter

The air filter will be located somewhere near your indoor AC unit. It might be behind a panel, or in between the slats of the grille. Pull it out and inspect: if it’s rotting away and contains dust bunnies, debris, insects or pet dander (or all of the above), then it needs to be replaced. If it seems relatively clean, wipe it down before putting it back in its place. Make sure that you replace any filters every few months at most, especially if you have pets or allergies—cleaner air is always better for both you and your system.

There are two basic types of air filters. You can either use a disposable filter or a washable one. The disposable ones may be cheaper but they need to be replaced regularly, usually every 6 months and each time you will have to buy a new one.

Washable air filters can last for years, with proper maintenance. If it gets dirty and clogged, simply remove it from the ducted AC system and clean it with water or vacuum cleaner. Once you’re done, the filter can be put back in place easily!

Drain Line

The drain line is a crucial part of the ducted AC. It allows the drainage of water from the indoor evaporator coil through a pipe to a suitable sewage outlet. The drain line needs proper maintenance as it can be clogged due to algae and sludge accumulation, resulting in faulty air conditioning operation.

You need to clean, unclog and disinfect the drain line regularly for proper functioning of your ducted AC.

  • You should remove the drain hose from the unit and rinse it thoroughly with water.
  • If there is any residue in the drain hose, use a wet paper towel to clean it out.
  • Reinstall the drain hose after you’ve finished cleaning it.

Clean the drain hose with a wet paper towel. It is often observed that due to continuous usage, dirt builds up inside the drain. An unclean drain can lead to improper functioning of an AC unit. That is why it is advisable to pour some water and clean the drain with a wet paper towel. After this, use dishwashing liquid to clean your condensate pan thoroughly and dry it before putting it back in its place.

Evaporative Coil

Check the evaporator coil of your air conditioning Sydney. If it is dirty, the air conditioner will probably produce a bad smell. The evaporative coil can be cleaned with a wet cloth or other cleaning agent.

If you are doing this for your outdoor AC unit, make sure to turn it off first. After that, spray a non-acidic coil cleaner. This will break up the dirt and grime that has made its home in your AC. Gently use a soft brush to remove all the dirt from the coils and evaporator fins.

Once you’ve gotten most of it off, rinse the area with water until clean. Use a towel to dry everything off, making sure not to bend any of the evaporator fins while drying them. It is important to let your AC unit dry out for at least an hour before turning it back on again so water doesn’t get into any electrical components.

Clean The Condensate Drain

Clean the condensate drain. The condensate drain cleaned once in every 6 months. First, you will need to turn off the power supply to the AC. After this, remove any coverings so that you can see the coils of your AC unit. Use a wet vice on both sides of the coil or use compressed air to try and blow out any blockages in your drain line. You can also try using bleach and hot water to get rid of any algae or grime that has accumulated in your condensate drain.

Check For Damaged Ductwork

A sign that your ductwork may not be working properly is if your AC is noisy. It may also not be as efficient, which means it could cost you more to run. To make sure this doesn’t happen, [check for damaged ductwork], and make sure no material such as insulation has fallen into the vents. You should also ensure there are no gaps around the edge of each vent.
